Why Your Business Needs To Think Mobile First

mobile marketing tipsThink Mobile Marketing First!

A few years ago one of my clients and I were thinking about his mobile marketing for his new website strategy. We were launching a brand new site, new design, new back end CMS, new front end, new SEO strategy, and heavy social media integration.

Because of emerging trends in technology we new mobile marketing would be a priority for us in the coming years. Fast forward to today and it looks like we were right!

Back at the time, we developed an awesome Flash site (yes I said a Flash site but remember, this was a few years ago – almost 5 to be exact), a very useful static HTML/PHP site, and we also created a separate mobile site to ensure our full website could be viewed on all platforms and that our mobile marketing strategy was functional and ready.

My point being that we were thinking mobile marketing even 4-5 years ago. To be honest, we were not thinking mobile first. Thinking mobile first is the key for any business with a website, especially local businesses.

Why Is Mobile Marketing So Important?

Kissmetrics and Neil Patel have a good post on why all marketers should be thinking mobile:

“Did you know that 58% of people who own smartphones have used them for store-related shopping? It’s no surprise that ecommerce and brick-and-mortar companies are all working hard to bring mobile shopping options to their customers.

The real question is: are you leveraging mobile technology?

It’s estimated that 63% of people expect to do more shopping on their mobile devices over the next couple of years. As mobile shopping continues to rise steadily in popularity, it’s important for you to stay ahead of the game in order to maintain relationships with your customers to make sure they keep coming back for more.”

We’re coming into one of the biggest consumer spending (i.e. buying) times of the year with not only Black Friday sales coming up but also Christmas 2013. There’s no better time than now for business and website owners to learn and understand this important fact:

Because of how their customers will be shopping this holiday season, businesses and marketers will need a solid mobile marketing strategy with a responsive designed website.

The infographic below has some amazing stats on why your business should be thinking mobile first.

Before we get to that, take a moment to consider these amazing mobile statistics!
