It’s website optimization tips time! Why? It’s official, spring is here and what better time to give your website a solid Search Engine Optimization (SEO) overhaul.
This time of year is prime for many business sectors. One of which stands out for me is Tourism. Particularly, Niagara Falls Tourism. As a social media marketing and SEO consultant based in the Niagara Region, my agency regularly offers website optimization tips to local businesses. I highly recommend all Niagara attractions, restaurants and hotels take note and refresh their website with a well researched search optimization strategy for the upcoming season. Just think of how many people are searching for “things to do in Niagara Falls” for their upcoming spring and summer long weekends.

The Open Graph element allows you to optimize social shares from your website by allowing you to customize specific titles, descriptions and images for shares on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and other social media sites.
Google’s +1 Button
You already have social icons on your website which link to your company social profiles. You likely also have badges so users can ‘like’ or ‘tweet’ or ‘follow’ you on whichever social network they choose.
Have you added the Google +1 button for users to share your content on Google’s popular and growing social network? After all, you want to rank high in Google search rankings right? What better way to do this than to use Google’s social sharing products?
Be sure to include the +1 button on all your pages and posts. The more +1’s you receive, the greater likelihood that your website will rank prominently for keywords. The next item this list will explain exactly why this is important.

What is Page Speed Insights? Google says: “PageSpeed Insights analyzes the content of a web page, then generates suggestions to make that page faster. Reducing page load times can reduce bounce rates and increase conversion rates.”
It’s a useful tool. Try it. Remember that PageSpeed helps for not only the user experience but it’s also aides with your SEO. If you get a score of 70-90 you’re doing all right. The closer to 90 is more ideal.
You’ll be surprised with how many broken links can appear in a site that hasn’t had a SEO audit or refresh in a few years. Go to your webmasters account with Google and Bing and source out any 404 errors that are detected.
Once you’ve found the error pages you can direct them to an appropriate page using 301 redirects.
While you’re in your webmasters account it may also be a good idea to check your index status and make sure all your important pages are being indexed by each search engine.
To sum up these website optimization tips, I recommend maintaining and tweaking your websites SEO each month. This includes both on-page and off-page SEO. If this just isn’t possible, a spring-cleaning is mandatory. Make sure you get it done.
